Hi all,

I have a VP 2003/120 Saildrive, mounted on VP GRP Engine Bed.

My query relates to the threaded inserts in the GRP Engine Bed, into which the bolts which secure the leg seal diaphram clamp ring are threaded.

Are these inserts steel, stainless steel?

Has anyone ever had a problem loosing the thread in these inserts as they have replaced diaphrams etc over the years?

I don't know what they are made of but I've changed the seal on my 120S twice now without any problems. Just make sure no debris falls into the inserts whilst the bolts are out.

I'm pretty sure they match the bolts, which if my memory serves me correctly are zinc plated steel, the same as the seal clamp ring. My experience has mainly been with the 110 Saildrive though, so just maybe the spec has been changed on the 120.

My installation is probably fairly typical - impossible to get a torque wrench on more than a few of them, the rest are done with a pretty short spanner.
