VP D12 800 Driveshaft query on SQ58

So down in the belly of my SQ 58, I notice a different arrangement of the positioning of these 2 black things ???‍♂️
What configuration is correct?? 1st pic is starboard and 2nd is port.

They are spare shaft seals , when required you can fit them without splitting the shaft from the gearbox .
Thanks Paul, I suspect if i’d managed to be your “Runner“ on your pending D12 service in Sth Uk you’d have probably shared that titbit with me anyway..... hope all‘s well. Regards TW.
 
I get the logic behind the “ready as spares” point, very sensible, Does it matter which side of the carbon brushes they sit, as you can see they are sat opposite?
 
No problem where they sit as long as they are not in contact with parts that aren’t rotating, i.e. existing shaft seal. And its worth checking the brushes are free to move, they have a tendency to seize so they don’t make good contact with the shaft, just pull them off the shaft and see that the spring flips them back again.
