Hi folks,

The first 20 degrees or so of movement of the throttle lever from vertical does not appear to increase engine revs. Does the cable need adjusting and if so is there a correct way of doing it.

Many thanks

Robert

The engine revs don’t increase when you initially engage gear which allows dead slow running and also protects the gearbox. You may already know this.

If after that point the revs do not increase as you move the lever, you can adjust the cable at the engine end – you can on my 2001 so I assume yours is the same. Make sure the outer cable casing isn’t collapsing under pressure when you move the lever as this would give you the same signs as a badly adjusted cable.

I don’t know if there is a correct way to adjust the cable but I would set the lever to neutral, loosen the inner cable clamp to allow the inner cable to slide if it wants to then tighten it up again making sure the outer cable is fitted onto its ‘stops’ both ends.
