Having opted to change the boat in the near future, can anyone bring me up to date on the matter of warranties on Volvo engines. Is it one year or three years these days?
This boat I'm looking at has Volvo 68's and are about a year old. Are there any nasties I should look for on these engines?
All help appreciated.

The question is are the warranties worth the paper they are written on?

The 63 is a strong slow revver and there are no known nasties to look out for. All those who have/had them on this forum have reported virtually zero faults. They should start and run pretty smoke free

They are the last of Volvo's mechanically governed marine engines, so less mpg than EVC equivalents, but so what.

So, the 63 is unlikely to need any warranty repair anyway but the current position for larger diesels is 24months for private use reduced to 12months if any charter use. For smaller engines it is 12months even for private use. I dont have the doc in front of me to check, last read it a few months ago, but I think 370hp might be below the cut off bhp, so 12months warranty even if private use. Need to check.

It definitely says transferable between owners. Volvo in Luton have a database, so if you had the ser numbers they could confirm

Hi, You need to look at the small print with Volvo warranties. Officially its 12 months, but there are alsorts of small caveats. The most disturbing one for me is that it states in the owners manual that engines should be run up to operating temperatures at least once every two weeks, in order to protect the bores from corrosion. Who has the chance to comply with that one?
