Volvo TAMD75 troubleshooting question on boat I may purchase.

in 2017 prior they did about $9000 worth of work, new belts, exhaust elbows, oil changes, removed and cleaned heat exchangers, etc.
Without treading on toes but that is a normal part of a service.
The figures you are stating really dont add up nobody gives away thousands - your taking his word as being trouble free - are you talking yourself into this ?
And as TerryW191253 has stated "if its too good to b true"

This would be my 14th boat. So I am not new to this. Owner is completely OK with a survey, both in water and out and also seatrial with engine survey. His only advise is the senatorial may not go so well since the starboard engine will not engage in fwd, only reverse.

I spoke to two different Volvo service places who are familiar with this issue and are reasonably sure it is a connection, recall, etc and not the ECM as a whole.

Here's the ad if any can access it via Facebook. Could be a lot of boat for 109k.

The way I see it, buying a used boat is a risk. In this case it looks like the owner has spent some money in the past couple of years on upgrades, so he clearly has put his hand in his pocket. You just need to decide if the risk is worth it - will you get a boat you want for much less than you would otherwise? Are you happy with the worst case scenario to make it right? If so, buy the boat. You'll never really know the seller's true intentions, so just ignore them. I recall I went to look at a boat a few years ago, the owner was telling me that he wanted to sell quickly because he'd found a much bigger boat that he wanted. Reality was, he was in the process of being made bankrupt. Whatever the truth, he was willing to sell the boat for £XX, and did I want to buy it.

but never ever when it comes to boats :)

I have to disagree!

Made 25% on both recent boats....inc what I spent to upgrade/put right.

No labour costs associated of course....if I factored in an hourly rate for that.....I’d be -1200%! ???

last boat was bought for 50% asking as it wouldn’t rev over 2900 on one engine. Seller just didn’t want to get into it. Fixed for the price of 4 x 8mm stainless bolts and a pack of donuts....I kid you not! Was a risk though....could have been anything but that’s the chance you take.

Why's that? I'd love to repaint my engines as they're showing some scars of previous water leaks etc. It doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with them.
Touching up is one thing which would not necessary be cause for concern but these engines looked like they potentially had a larger paint job. In my experience having owned 17 used boats larger paint or gelcoat jobs anywhere on a boat was a clear indication that something specific had happened which I would have liked to know about before the purchase. Obviously do not mean it's always a problem but in my experience more often than not it turned out to be problematic.

What was the problem?!

If I had an engine out for any reason (could just be major maintenance etc.), i'd always take the opportunity to do a full re-spray while it can be done... it would be silly not to.

What was the problem?!

Charge Air Cooler casing had a snapped bolt. When the boost came in, the casing opened up a bit and all the boost escaped!

bought the bolts....pack on donuts to have stuck threads removed and housing re tapped....went off like a scolded cat!

i found it ONLY thanks to Volvopaul who explained how to bring in the S/C without revving the engine.....and a bit of luck as it was right at the back of the engine.....you’d never just spot it as when the engine was ticking over....no gap in the housing.

A little research and a few phone calls and I am feeling much better. Called the diesel mechanic who worked on the boat in 2017 when it was purchased. Boat was in great shape, zero issues with engines but all the work was negotiated in the sale. Mechanic said they ran great and needed a little PM stuff. All new belts, impellers, exhaust elbows, etc. As a bonus the guy distinctly remembered the now owner and said he was an awesome straight up guy, great to work with, communicate well and had a specific attention to detail.

Send an email to Coastal Rides, they sometimes have used ECU's for sale. Would be a good insurance policy for you.
