The boat's back in the water after a few months out. We had a job to start the engines. Changed all filters and bled but now one engine idles at 1100rpm and the other is normal at 600rpm. Any idea why or how to adjust?
We really need to get going because we want to get from Genoa to France tomorrow.

I stay away from VP stuff, however sounds like you are in a rush, but here is a word of warning before the Volvo guys chip in, do not mess with the idle speed adjustment on the injection pump, requires setting up on pump stand not in the boat.

Sorry but you have screwed up during your filter change, obviously have air in the system due to hard starting.

Check out your throttle linkage, or maybe still have air in the system however do not touch the pump idle screw!

Oops, just seen your reply. This afternoon I adjusted the idle speed screw!
I made a note of the number of turns (1). I can put it back tomorrow morning before we set off.
We bled the filters and even slackened each injector with the engine running.
Not sure what else to do.

Check throttle arm, make sure it's not the cable that's not returning or even remove cable to check.

Did it idle before layup have you actually seen it idle before? Could be sticky governor.

On the pump above idle screw is damper, 17mm cap, remove cap undo other 17mm half nut, slacken off and see if idle speed drops. If it drops too low, re tighten until you feel it make contact , use your fingers not a screwdriver to feel, set up idle speed, rev up a few times to make sure engine doesn't stall.

All was well when it came out in June.
When we started it for the fist time after going back in it ran really fast for a minute or two then stopped and wouldn't restart. Changed all fuel filters and restarted it but with high idle.
We did check the throttle arm and it looked ok but I'll disconnect it and recheck.
I adjusted the big bottom screw half a turn and the small top one one turn.

If you have touched the damper that's probably why its high idle speed now , slacken it back

Hi Adey,

Idle speed problem solved?

I had the same problem after change diesel pre-filters because still some air in the system.

We had to bled pump for a second time and the idle speed became to 600rpm.
