Hi There

Does anyone have experience of removing and overhauling injectors for the above engines? In particular does anyone know a reputable company in the north of England to overhaul or exchange overhaul the injectors. Any advice welcome regarding the above including removal and replacement of the injectors themselves.

Regards

Neil

Hi, I replaced mine (TAMD41A) about 2 yrs ago. Used new (approx £65 each then) Can source via marine supplier or cheaper via motor factors (Bosch part number 0986 430161(try Andrew Page)). Can be difficult to remove. if you can get a nut of the correct thread and screw it half way on to the injector, you can then screw a long bolt into the nut and gently pull/tap ithe injector out. Make sure you use new "o" rings (2 per injector) in the fuel lines and don't overtighten the fuel pipe nuts. Good luck.

I did this last year on my 41a engines. One thing to watch out for is that volvo use a copper sleeve that surrounds the injector. If this comes out with the injector as you remove it the coolant can run down into the bores (I found this out from experience). Volvo do an injector removal tool for only about £20 and this is designed to hold the sleeve in place as the injector comes out. I was able to get mine reconditioned for about £12 each by a retired fuel injection specialist but I did replace two of them ( they cost £115 each from a bosch agent). The injectors for the 41a and 41b are different, I took one of mine to the local bosch agent for identification. Hope this is of some help.

Hi you can use volvo exchange ones, but get them tested first as they maybe ok, 41 a engines smoke a lot when started so dont be put off that, if the engines missfire when started from cold then there maybe other issues, these are all common probs with old 41a series, if the engines black smoke when under load then again start with injectors but other things can contribute to this, PM me if you need anymore info, I do work at York MBC and Naburn.

I bought the removal tool from the my my local volvo penta agents (Craigs in Lisburn). If you can get a hold of a workshop manual it lists all the part no.s for the special tools you may need...I bought the injector removal tool and a sleeve removal tool as I replaced a couple of the copper sleeves as well.
