The alternator drive belts on my TAMD41P engine have become a little slack. According to the hand-book I need to loosen the two bolts securing the alternator, then turn the adjusting nut to get the right tension. Apart from the fact that I am working by feel as all the bolts are tucked out of sight, I can't work out how the "adjusting nut" is supposed to move the alternator. Can anyone explain how this works?

I had AQAD41's in an previous boat which is the same base engine and there was no adjusting nu. Needed to use hand power or a short lever to put tension on the alternater belt by pression the alternator upwards. Not a very practical arrangement but was ok once you got the hand of it. My current KAD 44's do have a tension screw. As it is the same base engine you might be able to retrofit this from memory the tension bracket is the same. Works a lot easier.

A 41 doesn't have an adjuster screw as per the 44, slacken the top bolt , slacken the lower bolt and use a suitable bar or lond screwdriver to force the alternator away from the engine then tighten the lower 12mm headed bolt, then the top bolt.

No alternator adjusting nut on my TAMD41P. Find a piece of wood to leaver/wedge the alternator then tighten the bolt that goes through the slot first, then the other two. The nuts are welded so no need for a spanner to hold them, even if there was enough room for another hand.

I have twin 41As Alan and concur that there are no adjusting screws. I use a long screwdriver underneath the alternator and maintain upward tension while doing up the bolts. I might add that I am generally lying on my back in the bilge under a cupboard while doing so ...........

My problem is the opposite. I am hanging upside down through a narrow hatch above the front of the engine, while repeating to myself "boating is fun, boating is fun........."
