Volvo TAMD 74 EDC

I am looking for some info and opinions on the above engine please. I have always had Yanmars in all the boats I have had. They have all been good old fashioned mechanical and easy to maintain engines but time goes on and we would like to consider upgrading our boat. A few of the boats we have seen have the above engine. Are these engines any good, how is their reliability assuming always serviced properly, any problems to look out for.

The above engines are EDC and from a few searches I have looked at, the EDC came before the EVC if I am correct but then the searches go into talking about ECU's etc. Do these engines come with ECU's as I have heard replacements are hard to access from Volvo if they go wrong. Sorry in advance for my ignorance on this subject but as said I have been used to good old fashioned no thrills mechanical engines.

The 63 74 /75 in my opinion were some of the best to leave that little factory in Sweden , unlike some of the stuff they sell us these days .
