Hello, the gasket under the glass of the tachometer has degraded and slumped down making contact with the needle stopping it from moving beyond 1200rpm. Does anyone know how to get in there and replace the gasket. Does the glass bezel unscrew or do you get in from the back? The tacho works fine up to the point it contacts the gasket so it seems a shame not to try and repair it. There is no hour meter and no sign of water ingress, we think its been caused by too much sun exposure!! Also if a replacement is required what measurement do you use? Is it the diameter of the mounting hole? Its on a 1990 Beneteau 38s5 with a 2003 28hp Volvo diesel. Thanks

If a replacement try Stanley r Harris seaward St
Try speedy cables for repair
From memory the glass is swadged in from the front

Exactly the same thing happened to the tacho on my last boat. As I recall, the front rim removes on some sort of bayonet arrangement.

Thank you for the suggested places nearby in Glasgow to repair or replace and thanks also for information it was a bayonet fit. I can see from the pictures in the link it is indeed a bayonet fit. We might even try the upgrade to an hour meter. All we need now is a warm dry spell to extract it from its impossible to get at location. Arms over 5' long would be useful. If we can get it apart l was going to reseal using instant gasket or similar, has anyone a better idea? Thanks

Update: Managed to extract it from the instrument panel and strip it down, it was held in by a bayonet fitting (as suggested) and the rubber gasket was so degraded it came apart quite easily. There was a copper ring holding in the glass which was beyond saving. We cleaned it up, reassembled using instant gasket and its looking and working just fine. Another wee job done. Thanks for the help.
