Volvo Tachometer (Again)

I posted this image a while back as was given to understand that the lens of the tachometer is removable. Having contacted VDO (whom I understand were the manufacturers) they seem to think but aren’t absolutely certain, that the lens is glued in. I wonder if anybody else can categorically confirm either way?? It dates from circa 2008 and is part of an EVC/MDI panel on a D1-30B Volvo Penta engine.

The photo is 5+ years old and the fogging of the lens is now so bad that the instrument is almost unreadable.

I have tried to polish the lens with Autosol but it has made virtually no difference.

I had the same with a fogged lens and a faded LCD. After lots of trying I gave up trying to fix it and stumped up the £600 for a new one.

Why not replace with an Alternator sensing Box and display for about 50 quid ....

Basically the box straps to the alernator and counts the pulses when running ....

Simple to fit ... simple to setup.

It's more than a tacho. There are no warning lights on the control panel. It's all done via the graphics LCD. Like all the gizmos on modern cars - not asked for, not needed, not repairable, and expensive to replace when it fails. A classic solution looking for a problem, but you can't buy a Volvo engine without it.

When I replaced the LCD digital display on mine the lens was not bonded in. I followed a Utube video like this

That's not the same tacho. The D1-30B and later have the graphics LCD. That one has the numeric only LCD. You can see that the OP's (and mine) have a taller LCD display.
