Volvo saildrive bed query

Question from a friend with a 10 year old VP saildrive - Are the saildrive ring bolts threaded into tapped holes in a continuous circular plate cast into the bed or do they use separate individual cast in threaded inserts/nuts?

Or more likely, nobody here knows. I have such a saildrive, but I've no idea what the clamping ring screws engage with inside the GRP bed.

Just been looking at some photos of a bed for sale on eBay. Not very clear from the photos but looks like glassed in nuts rather than a ring.

Does not the ring of bolts just compress the doughnut in the outer flange? any other bolts on the inside flange are through to the leg itself?
Just from memory of doing the job?Whats worrying your chap?

Hi I just had a look at old photos from when i replaced the saildrive gaiter on my 2002 VP 2030, its not glasses in nuts but some sort of metal thats been drilled/taperd

Thanks for your replies.
He is concerned that one of the holding down bolts is not tightening properly
Hence the question
My own saildrive is now 30 years old.
I have replaced the rubber seal twice without problem.
I always assumed that the bolts tapped into a solid ring-plate within the bed.
If that is not the case they must be cast-in nuts or threaded inserts which could rotate if not fully bonded in the fibreglass bed.
I have since learned that not all manufacturers used the VP bed but made up there own with possible variations in the design.
An electrical continuity check between bolts might be useful or else a small drill hole - but its not my boat!

As can be seen on the above website it's a solid ring. It would be poor practice to depend on glassed in nuts in order to clamp the rubber seal effectively.
