Chum has a pair of 175HP petrols on outdrives in a sports boat.
One engine appears to be raw water cooled and is functioning OK.
The starboard engine appears to have either a heat exchanger or calorifier or both.
Starboard engine overheats on tickover/ low speed but temps drop when boat is doing more than 2000rpm.
Not personally actually looked at the set up on boat.
Is it usual for one engine to be raw water and the other to be freshwater cooled or is my chum confusing stuff.
Definately has a way of heating hot water..

Would be a very odd set up from the factory. May have been modded at some point to allow a calorifier to be fitted, and therefore may have done just one engine, but I believe you can add a calorifier to a raw water cooled engine anyway, so can't see the logic.

Anyway, the important question is: how are his outdrives?

Always assumed these engines to be raw water cooled, do know that a few 131 were freshwater cooled.
Will be having look at some point.

His outdrives are OK :)

I think FWC may have been a factory option, but most were RWC. I had a V8 from the 80's that was FWC from the factory. The main point is though that I doubt one would be FWC and the other RWC from the factory, so either both RWC or one has been retrofitted with FW cooling.

Over heating problem solved.
Worn face plate on raw water pump..
Plate reversed water flow and temps back to normal.

...and yes one engine is raw water cooled and the other (starboard) engine has a combined heat exchanger/ calorifier bolted onto front of engine block.
