Hey guys looking at buying a princess 440 1996 with twin tamd72p edc that’s been on the hard for 10 years looking for poorly but nothing that canput right, My main issue is I’m not familiar with the tamd 72 all I know is it is very low hours and had full service the year it was taking out and new antifreeze etc but obviously they really only good for 5 years or so.

if I go ahead and buy it I’ll give it a full service including taken injectors out and camera down to check how it’s looks and pour teaspoon of oil down and leave for a few days then hand turn the crank to lubricate the sleeves and check turbo is freely spinning before attempting to fire it up and I will be renewing all thru hull fittings and hoses etc.

current own a princess 380 with tamd63p that run faultlessly but looking to upgrade.

Any advice on the 72 would be much appreciated Are they as good as 63 blocks.

regards
Marty

try Volvo Penta ECU, oops too late

whats the access to the engines like ?

Haven’t had the floor up yet just lifted main access hatch and had a look down and all look still clean.

believe no Shore Power has been plugged to it to so not doubt heaters have been running during winter or dehumidifier.

basically someone with to much money has left it there and not touched it for 10 years, good points all the upholstery was renewed and still looks all good and clean inside and out but headling and wall panels are mould spots but all easily cleaned.

Ohh the 72 , one of the failures in my opinion volvo tried to extract too much from its 6.7 litres with the high fuel input , big turbo with a strange wastegate set up , plus inadequate intercoolers , this caused high piston temperature with excessive wear internally to pistons and liners , it wasn’t long before the 73 evolved with full edc and new design pistons, injectors , pump etc and a new design heat exchanger, sea water pump and intercooler with a proper wastegate turbo.

Yes mate that’s my princess 380 for sale currently the only one in the Uk at the moment I believe,

yeah I am not familiar with the 72 hence the post, I’ve watched it sit for 10 years on the hard and always says I would try chase it one day and I’ve made an low offer as it’ll require a lot of work to put right again.
