Hey guys been looking for new brushes for my Volvo Penta tamd41a starter motor but can’t seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Marty

Did find an alternative source for carbon brushes when my windlass needed some love and care from a local starter motor repair company.Just needed a 5 second modification with file to fit.
OEM brushes were something silly at around £60.00.

Think a set of genuine VP brushes for 41b
starter is about £40.00, suspect after market price will be half that.

Yeah I think that’s what I am going to do I have been put on to a local company called Abercorn auto electrics in paisley so I am giving them a call today they have done this type of work before.

Go straight to the wholesalers who supply the auto electricians as they tend to stock them all, remember to clean the commutator and surface it if necessary.

Brand new starter motor from Wood Auto is around £140. Why prat around with brushes?

On that website a motor for the D41 diesel is closer to £ 200.00.
It also states it will start everything from a 65HP MD30 to a 265 HP 44, a large range of power.
However would suspect that when a remanufactured unit is £300.00, the robustness of that new unit might not be up to the same spec regards build quality ?
Which makes the brushes a sensible alternative .

The MD30 initially had had a insulated return Bosch unit presumably one already used by other engines in the VP range not just the then new 30/40 range of engines this unit was repairable
This starter was replaced by the much lighter Valeo unit which was used throughout the range then .
It is interesting that the commercial use engines used the Bosch long after the changeover.
When VP started their service exchange program some items demanded return of old units but starters and alternators just asked that the old units be scrapped indicating they were not worth repairing compared with the cost of new from VPs or their suppliers viewpoint.
