Hi this is my first post. I have a Cranchi Endurance 33 2003 with just 200 hours and serviced meticulously. Last summer on craning it out for winter we noticed the duoprops had slightly 'unscrewed.' The boat had been running well. As a result I decided to have the sterndrives checked at its Spring service. The boat is at a workshop in Greece who say the sterndrives need rebuilding for 6000e with 4000e being parts. I have no breakdown of parts needed 6 weeks on however. Does this sound the right ball park cost?
 
They got to get their EU bill down somehow! get out there with your spanners. Mind you have heard of outdrives throwing in the towel on even less hours.

You should really ask what's wrong with them and what they intend to do. You can spend that money on a rebuild but you are getting close to the cost of new drive.
I would also question the 200h and serviced, if that was 100% true the drives should not a rebuild like that unless you've run aground or hit something in the water.
 
Prop Shaft oil seals damaged allowing water into drive left over winter causing rusted bearings ?

yes mucho money

Check cost of replacement drives and or lower gear units

What was the oil emulsified when drained
 
I think they are pulling a fast one. The season before last I had both legs fully serviced (all seals changed) including oil and exhaust bellows for £900 the pair.

And it's very unlikely that even if one of the legs has a serious problem that coincidently the other would at the same time.

And.... what has the props being loose got to do with the legs requiring a rebuild??

Scottie I think the prop shaft oil seals could have gone as the oil was slightly emulsified when drained but the boat was only used for maybe 10 hours with new oil before this was drained and taken off to be serviced. I still haven't got the quote broken down. I think I will take the sterndrives back off them and find another mechanic. It's so difficult to find reliable qualified mechanics out there. I am tempted to fly out some mechanics from the dealer where I bought the boat in Wales! This may end up costing the same but I will know the jobs done properly.

Looking at posts giving ballpark costs and bearing in mind the sterndrives were running perfectly well apart from the slight 'unscrewing' of the rear props, sadly I think they are taking the p**s. Especially as they took the sterndrives off months ago and quote me now just as the season is starting and I want my boat.
 
Moving engines out of the way to get at rear of transom assembly,perhap jackshaft and or bearings had water damage.?
New set of rams ?
