I am in the middle of re engine of my boat. Originally it was a Volvo MD2B mated via a bearing carrier to an AQ100 outdrive (with gearbox). The replacement engine is an MD11C, I removed the broken MS gearbox from it and I’m trying to mate it to my original outdrive and bearing carrier. They won’t quite go together, the bolt head (pictured in the top picture attached) fouls on the end of the driveshaft that runs through the bearing carrier. Just wondering if anyone knows the purpose of the bolt and whether I can safely remove it and run without it.
Many thanks in advance

Looking at the picture the bolt head seems to cover a washer which presumably is holding the key in position if you remove the bolt you stand a chance of the key steel coming out. but I am no expert...... pull the bolt out to see if I am right!

Yes the washer was peened up to the bolt. I need to lock off the flywheel before I attempt to remove the bolt.. hence my hesitation and the likelihood the bolts been on for 40 years…

Volvo Penta parts and accessories - MarinePartsEurope.com
there are a couple of flanges using different bolts
the one with a part number beginning 8xxxxx is a special Penta or marine the ones with 9 is bog standard out of the Volvo group parts bin
hope this helps
you are in the vintage rare realms now!
I took a look at those schematics the MD11c flange has a spacer which I am hoping I can either remove or thin so that the flanges mate
