I have a problem with my Volvo Penta MD22 (50hp) . Usually starts first turn of the key but having been left for 2 months started yesterday and it took 2 turns of the key. It ran on a hunting idle for a few minutes then stopped. I re started it and the same thing happened. By now it was warmish .....so the third time i started it i decided to give it some throttle to try to clear what ever was possibly causing the problem. However, on giving some throttle the engine raced away on full throttle!! Creating lots of black smoke. I immediately pulled the throttle lever to idle bug to no effect. The engine stayed at max. I then as quickly as i could switched off before the engine destroyed itself. I then checked the throttle linkages but they were fine. I then again tried to start it. But again the engine immediately revved off the scale with throttle lever in neutral. Can i assume the injector pump is stuck in a fully open position internally? How easy is it to open it and clean out the offending dirt or sludge etc. Please help. (( many thanks james

Did you get any resolution for your problem? I also have a throttle problem with this this engine, except the opposite. The engine will go into gear OK, but sometimes when I advance the throttle lever nothing happens and the engine stays at idle. if I move the throttle lever back and forth a few times, it will usually engage and then will work normally. I don't see any external problems with the linkage. Any suggestions from anyone?

The original problems may still be there and you can learn from the threads but the suspects may have folded their tent and fled
