I know there has been a lot posted on this engine, so my apologies for this...But has anyone found a source of non OEM cheaper pattern parts. I primarly need a head gasket and at 50-60£ it is rediculous. I have even considered making a gasket that uses a copper crush-ring arround the top of the liner and gasket material over the rest and waterways. Chris.

Keep a watch on Ebay as a fellow in Thailand makes the original pattern which are much more resilient than the current ones . Just be sure to order the correct pattern as he does MD1 and MD1A and they are not the same. His prices have gone up but still cheaper than Volvo. He is about due to advertise another batch.

I believe that the thickness of the metal head gasket was also a consideration, together with shim gaskets fitted to the underside of the block to achieve the correct clearance of piston and cylinder head.I had to have one shim on my old MD1B to do this.

Have you tried Keyparts for a price, they are very prompt with delivery and information you may need, and usually somewhat cheaper with volvo made stuff; with some parts, rings and springs, from Bosch, also not the cheapest, but good quality.
