I have almost finished the lovingly undertaken, lengthy and very costly restoration of a 1976 Volvo Penta MD11C marine diesel but have hit a brick wall trying to replace the damaged fuel pipes which link the fuel pump to the two injectors and the leak off pipe. Naively I thought it would be a simple task to have a new set made as these parts are now obsolete from Volvo. However, I have drawn a complete blank in trying locally.

Below is a link to a schematic view of the parts (Nos: 9, 10 & 32)

Do any fellow travellers out there have an old MD11C rusting in the back of the boat shed or know of a source of parts?

Many thanks

Know the feeling, in my case it was bolts which I could not get. I have had a look at the exploded drawing and I think that you would have no problem geting suitable banjo fittings. I would go to a hydraulic hose company with the old ends and they will make you up new flexibles with oil resistant hose. ( I presume it is items 23 and 39 and not the high pressure line to the actual injectors)

Regards

John

Just make sure the westerly community know and someone will have some in their garage.....I will have to check here .

A good worshop could make them from high pressure tube and standard fittings.

Maybe worth you joining the Westerly Yahoo group and asking there.

Why??? What is done is done, but is his not a salutory lesson. Old engines that are past their sell by date are a complete money pit. You have embarked on a course of all pain and zero gain.

Even in its day MD11 was technically nasty and crude old motor.

Not too late to think again, give that tired old iron a deep six. Boating should be for pleasure. Every time servicing comes around it will be the decision, do I dump the lube or keep the lube and dump the motor........

I cannot help but suggest maybe you'll find a local source of hydraulic pipes who will be able to make new ones for you.

My late friend's son is about to start a similar project to rebuild the MD11C in his father's old Westerly.

I must warn him to be careful with the fuel pipes.

I hope you find source and the old engine gives you a good few more years service.. They don't make 'em like they used to!

As it happens my friend has just taken an MD11 out of his boat and is replacing it with a Beta. However, the volvo is a runner and I doubt he'll be breaking it.

You are not alone there are a few of these lovingly restored objects on utube!

Sorted!!!!

Friends

Thanks to one and all who have added to the thread!

I am delighted to report that Steve on the Isle of Wight has come up with the goods which an engineer friend of his had saved from an engine change.

Thanks for all the ideas and links you have sent and safe sailing for the season

Richard
