Hi all,
I have noticed on one of my KAD300s the connection between the turbo exhaust outlet and elbow is slightly leaking rusty fluid (assume seawater) Common on a lot of VP's I think.....

Its starting to make a mess on exhaust outlet through the outdrive.

Does anyone know of a fix where I can remove, clean it all up and replace with some kind of paste on the joint, like Hylomar or a clay? Trying to avoid replacement if poss.

I would replace the Volvo stainless clamp also.
thanks....

Thanks both.
That part is a lot cheaper from Repowermarine and with 3 year warranty. I think I will go with that as well as new clamp from VP.

What you may find as I did on mine was the actual clamp had split
Hence not an air tight joint so you may only require a new clamp for now keyparts stock them.

Wow, that doesn't look good. Thanks for the pics.
I will check the clamp if I can, but loathed to remove the clamp without having new parts ready to go on.

its not difficult if its original its an 11mm socket on the clamp - slacken it off pull the elbow back a little and the clamp is off.
if its of any consolation mine was the same as yours.
what I did was take the whole elbow off and cleaned the mating faces of the elbow to turbo and the face of the turbo to ensure a flat fit and put some exhaust paste on as I was refitting

Often it’s not just the elbow that needs replacing but the face of the turbocharger flange corrodes badly as well. If the tc is old the blade tips wear and you don’t get full performance.

I note Repower Marine do not say it will fit a Kad 300?

Note also Volvo Penta warranty is 12 months for the part but if fitted by a Volvo Penta Dealer is 2 years parts and labour.

The elbow itself has very little to go wrong, corrosion is the enemy which will take many years. If it’s for you to fit the Repower Marine warranty for a non original part has little value.

agreed. It's a maintenance replacement item
Last year I replaced my turbos but didn’t replace the elbows on my 2002 KAD 43’s 500 hrs. Didn’t know you had to!
All seems ok and no leaks but what would be the symptoms of an excessively worn elbow.
Should I now replace mine if I don’t have a problem... 400 quid is 400 quid after all.
