Volvo Penta DP290 Steering Helmet...

I wonder if anyone can help. We lifted our boat today and found the Volvo 290 DP helmet is broken. The fork is ok, but we need to get another. We contacted our Volvo agent who said that you cannot buy just the helmet part anymore, you need to buy the helmet AND the fork and that they are now riveted rather than bolted.

Now, the problem that we have is that we cannot remove the fork - we have tried everything and it will not budge.

Would anyone know where we could buy just the helmet (and ideally the fixing bolts) so we can just bolt it onto the existing fork. Our other option is to buy the new set then drill out the rivits, but it seems a little silly spending £500 when all we need is the helmet....

Have tried Coastal Rides but they don't have anything at present. Any help would be very much appreciated !!

Yes, thanks for that. I have already pm'd him and hoping it is the right one....

We have seen a few for sale on places like eBay etc, but they are not the right ones - 280,275 etc - but I don't think they will fit. Thanks though !!

I have a spare one for a 280 drive, it looks the same as your photo, but could of course be slightly different. I will look for casting numbers tomorrow.

We have been looking at the 280, but think they are different. The shape is definitely different (which wouldn't be the problem), but we also need to facilitate the rack for the trim sensor.... I don't think this will work, but if we don't have any option, may I send you a pm.... ?

That's something we are now looking at, but would prefer a replacement if at all possible. There is a major crack across the top and a bit completely broken off on the arm part.....

They are availible as a spare with volvopenta but only the complete assy ie the fork and helmet.

Just looked at your pic, im pretty sure what i have will do the job, the shaft is pitted on the spline, but the part you need will do.
