Volvo Penta DP-E Stern Drive - Name

I am searching the net for parts for my Volvo Penta What I think is called a DP-E Outdrive.

All I keep finding is parts for a 290DP Drive..... Is this the same thing. I am after an anode kit at the moment but will from time to time need other things.
 
If you click on the specific anode you're interested in, you can see what other volvo engines/drives also use the same part.

If the case of the dpe drive it looks as if some anodes are used on both the dpe and 290 drive and some are not.

If you want to be certain you're getting the right parts, just buy the official vp anodes for the dpe from marineparts europe from the link above.

Maybe but I am sure he will not help here and that is up to him of course...….

I rather think my Patience with Volvo is coming to an end...….

Many thanks for your help..... As an example I have used the Keypart site and found the anode part No 875821... On the DPE parts list....

When I put this into a search on ebay (The way I feel about volvo I don't want then to have another penny of my money) I get all info about 280 AN 290 DRIVE

As far as anodes are concerned
There is a 290 Duoprop and a 290Singleprop
Some drives use the small triangular anodes and some do not.
My 290-dp-e do not have the triangular anodes.
If you have anodes on the trim tabs and on a bow thruster ,perhaps they might need renewing too?

I dont really see how your issue is volvo's fault - the official parts that fit the DPE drive are quite clearly stated - if you want to go aftermarket or through none official channels to get pattern parts then that's your choice but you cant really blame volvo for a lack of reliable info from pattern parts (ie non volvo) retailers. I'm sure if you call one of the retailers directly they'll be able to tell you exactly which pattern parts will fit your drive , even if its not on the website.

I know volvo have their faults - I've criticised them frequently, but this is a bit odd.

That’s a car and light commercial vehicle oil , it won’t have the extra additives that Volvopenta specific for an oil that used in the marine environment, Volvo have there oil blended which carries a water resistant product . There is also a friction additive that works with the cone clutch , looks cheap to me I wonder who’s route product it actually is and how stringent it’s quality control is .
I have a saying , buy cheap buy twice.
 
I'm not convinced . Fully synthetic oil is capable of dealing with a little moisture.
Do Volvo Penta provide a technical data sheet for their oil?

If volvo parts were a more reasonable Price I would agree with you but I feel they are way way over the top.

I also struggle to believe what many volvo people say about the extra special nature of their parts. I also know of Volvo mechanics that use after market and pattern parts.

For those that can easily write a cheque for all their boat work then yes volo Parts are fine but for those boaters who are not so financially fortunate they have to find alternatives

After 30 years plus in the job you get to know what and not what to buy and where and where not to buy from , for fear of litigation I cannot say where not to buy from.
I buy some non genuine parts that I know will give no trouble , the genuine parts are always fitted where they need to be .
I would not put after market oil in a 6 k outdrive or 12k IPS unit , need I say any more .
People you make your own choice .

What ever other critical comments can be made about Volvo Penta at least they still supply many of the parts big and small to keep some pretty ancient bits of machinery on the move.
Considering the low volumes on some major items, the prices asked do not seem outrageous,especially if its a case of writing off an entire engine for the sake of heat exchanger or a gearbox for the price of a shaft.
If anybody could make money by doing aftermarket copies they would have done so by now.
Going to take a wild guess and assume outdrives may be the reason for your hostility towards Volvo Penta in general.

Well it is vital which sticker the factory are told to put on the cans..... Makes all the difference

No nothing to do with an outdrives it was Shafts that were the issue. I told you so
