Typical had installed today the
Volvo will probably want a kings ransom to turn that on. I had live fuel flow display on a pair of Volvo D9s. Going up a wave OMG!, going down a wave Praise the Lord!Typical had installed today the
Yacht Devices Boat Engine Gateway YDEG-04 for Volvo Penta, BRP Rotax and J1939 engines to NMEA 2000 or Seatalk NG and all going well with all the engine data up on my Axiom except the one I realy wanted was fuel flow. This did not show on the EVC square 4" display either. The chap who fitted it was completely perplexed as he fits the Yacht devices Gateway to many boats all the time. It seems Volvo need to activate this feature using the Vodia software installer at some unknown expense. Does anyone know if this is a volvo dealer flexible price ie what they can get away with charging or a fixed cost. At the moment I have waited 10 days for them to even give me the software upgrade part number let alone a price. Sunseeker guys (No, I dont own a sunseeker) were surprised as all their volvo engines have all the feature codes unlocked) Anybody got any bright ideas how to keep the cst down?
Generally I would agree but having got so far I feel I need to see this upgrade to the end.Volvo will probably want a kings ransom to turn that on. I had live fuel flow display on a pair of Volvo D9s. Going up a wave OMG!, going down a wave Praise the Lord!
You probably already know what the boat burns/hour. Knowing it to the minute won't do you any good at all.
I didn't save any fuel and after a while it just becomes annoying. Boats burn a lot of diesel what ever you do. Don't waste money on Volvo instead make sure the bottom and props are clean and don't stuff the boat with junk to overload it. Then enjoy the ride.
Another top tip. Never ever ever work out the total cost of running your boat per hour. NO, stop don't do it ;-)
Good luck with it, but on your own head be it ;-)Generally I would agree but having got so far I feel I need to see this upgrade to the end.
Hi Nigel-disappointing to hear that you are struggling to get a price for the upgrade as it’s very quick and easy for a Dealer to look this upGenerally I would agree but having got so far I feel I need to see this upgrade to the end.
Hi engine number A315048. Single engine shaft D6. I’m based in Poole. Many thanks for any help you can give me. Regards NigelHi Nigel-disappointing to hear that you are struggling to get a price for the upgrade as it’s very quick and easy for a Dealer to look this up
Do you happen to have one of your engine serial numbers to hand? If so, send it over and I’ll take a look for you.
Where are you based?
£590 inc VAT for the software and about half to one hour for the programmingHi engine number A315048. Single engine shaft D6. I’m based in Poole. Many thanks for any help you can give me. Regards Nigel
Great. I’m not sure which part is the PCU and how easy to disconnect. I will find out. Otherwise when you are down in August please.£590 inc VAT for the software and about half to one hour for the programming
And it could be done remotely, you’d just need to remove your PCU and post it, as that is the only control unit that is loaded with new data
That said, I’ll be down that way myself at the end of August…

Dear Andy,The PCU is the black box bolted to the side of the engine directly above the air filter - see the highlighted section below. It's held on by 4 x bolts and a single multi-pin plug that has a hinged locking tab along the bottom that will just pull away as you disconnect it, so really easy to remove.
I'll be 25 minutes away from Poole on Friday 29th August through to Monday 1st September

Thanks for the feedbackHi Nigel,I took our boat with twin D6’s up to Lymington and Ropework carried out the update for us, very pleased with the service/result.
I used the Yacht devices NMEA Gateway and after getting the Volvo software update circa £500 the Yacht Devices connected into my Raymarine Seatalk system so I can all the fuel data on both my Axiom Pro and my Volvo EVC display. Expensive but please I did it; particularly now with fuel prices I can see exactly how many litres I have used on a specific trip.Hello!
I’m new to the forum and have a question about Trip Computer.
My setup is a 2011 Volvo Penta D6 with EVC-D and the small black 2.5” Volvo Penta EVC display at the helm. I’m thinking of buying a Yacht Devices YDEG-04 engine gateway (J1939 to NMEA 2000) to get engine data onto my Garmin, but I’d really like to get fuel consumption / fuel flow as well. I don’t see any fuel consumption data on the Volvo display today, which makes me suspect that Trip Computer is not installed or activated. Is there any way to get the fuel consumtion data without buying Trip Computer?
More specifically:
1. Could the fuel-rate data still be present on the EVC network anyway if I connect the YDEG-04 to the yellow Multilink connection at the helm?
2. If not, could the data still be present in the cable between the engine-side EVC and the HCU, so that I could read it by using the Yacht Devices EVC/Vodia inline adapter cable there and then connecting the YDEG-04 to that?
Or would I need to buy and activate Trip Computer to get fuel-flow data at all?
I've only ever known fuel data to be visible once the software upgrade has been done. If you'd like a price for this then just share your serial number here, and if you are local to ourselves (Essex, UK and surrounding areas) then I'll happily send a price to supply & installOkay! I’m conciderint that also but heard about someone who managed to get the fuel data without the software by connecting the yacht device nmea gateway inline between the engine and the HCU. Don’t know what version of ECU though. Do you know if that would work? The thesis is that all data is sent unfiltered to the HCU, but that the HCU, without the Trip Computer software, does not forward the data.
