My mate has pair of D6s in his boat.
One of the tensioners was squeaking and rattling merrily away.
His company services most of its vehicles in house.
He said that the tensioner looked remarkably similar to one used in Peugeot vehicles.
He fitted a Peugeot unit to his D6 and it appears to be running fine.

My first 'volvo' powered boat had two 75 hp diesels which were from the Peugeot car of that era, she was a Project 31.
Saved a fortune in spares.

Any information like this on any engine is worth knowing about .
I doubt any engine manufacturer goes to the trouble of developing new designs for ancillary items when suitable components already exist.
Presumably the tensioner came a t less cost than the Volvo Penta item ?

There should be ( I have not looked btw ) a forum of owners which had a sticky with cross parts on .Using part numbers etc
Car forums , car owners club tend to develop them .
Also as well as parts they do common and not so common mechanical jobs / fixes / upgrades .
Upgrades are quite interesting as they improve on known recognised OEM weakness .


Eg a friend of mine had an Aston ( in the era Ford took over ) and the indicator relay failed .Aston wanted £30 and 1/2 hr Labour to fit and some more Labour to diagnose the dealer was miles away .His then GF s dad worked in the local Ford 3 miles away dealership.Went on “the system “ and it cross parted with the Ka , £2.95 .Looked identical and obviously worked . Took 2 mins to fit .

But the business models are different.The Aston and indeed VP are lower volume than Ford and Peugeot fewer sites but the overheads are the same , rates floorspace costs etc .Arguably a fully trained up engineer for Aston + VP actually needs more up front investment than picking up a 18 y old from the local tech and throwing him into a VTS or nowadays equivalent training scheme.The parts inventory for the Aston + VP will have a slower turn over than the Ford + Peugeot, ie more dealer capital is tied up sat on a shelf for the Aston + VP outfits .
Shove all that through a bean counters grinder and that’s how a indicator relay ( identical part ) for a DB 7 costs £150 fitted , all in at AM and just £3 at a Ford dealer ....inc free fitting with Ford .
