Volvo Penta D4-260 A-B replacement bell housing

Can anyone tell me why the new replacement bell housing has a hole alongside the shaft which requires a plug and flange screw to be fitted?

Some volvo flywheels have got a hole in the corresponding position.
It could be there to be used as a flywheel lock if you insert a rod when lined up?

It’s for the ‘water in bellows’ sensor on the new DPI drives. They use the same bell housing as the DPH-E drive which don’t have this feature, hence it needs blocking off

surely VP have designed the belows and associated mechanics so they don't leak ? thus no need for a sensor

Bellows can be damaged by external factors, critters etc.
