Volvo penta d3 crank but no start

“ Timing belt “
Rings alarm bells if the fuel has no air leaks proved out by the gallon can hook up mentioned ^^^ .

Not familiar with the D3 specifically , but wonder if it’s slipped after that first run out , or some other semi show stopper related to timing the fuel pump not sync d now .Was initially but not now .Somethings come loose and moved its out of time .
This is and has been my suspicion all along the engineer is adamant that the timing is fine, what i find strange is that the engineer did not want me there at the time of his last visit saying that if he knew i was going down he would not have told me he was going that day.

Should come in a kit with a new tensioner,
Did he leave any old parts eg the belt and crucially the old tensioner in a box for you to see on the boat ?
If the tensioner is loose then the thing might get intermittently out of time , not sufficient for a catastrophic interference, but enough for difficult starts when cold, or without your added “ squirt of easy start “

It restarts immediately because it’s still hot enough in the cylinders even with a bit of off timing .There’s a bit of latitude.A bit .

Yes i was there when service carried out, watched him replace the belt and tensioner also still have the old belt.

Make sure the fuel filter is up really tight. They suck air at high revs. Used to have a couple that would do the same. I think these is also a non return valve in the return to the tank line may be worth replacing.

As others have mentioned run fresh fuel on a test system if possible

Please can some one help? I have a volvo penta d3 5 yearly service completed and during 1st use broke down. The fault i have is that she cranks but does not start. Things checked so far are air leaks/seals fuel pump, injectors have been reconditioned and cleaned out and pressure tested. And earths have all been cleaned and checked. I found my batteries to be dead this week so today i put two new batts on, gave a tiny squirt of easy start and she fired running and sounding sweet like a new engine. So my fault is that when engine is running its perfect no knocks or bangs, if i turn off the ignition and turn back on engine starts straight away no issues. If i leave it 5 mins after turning off then she will start but struggle a little. If i leave it 10mins she will start but struggle a lot. Any longer leaving it then i have no idea if she will start again with out using easy start to get her going. Please some one help this fault is causing head ache now.
UP DATE - thanks all for your help, fault found by by passing all the filter and putting fuel can direct to electric pump. Fault is with the fuel filter hand pump not holding pressure and letting air in.
