Looking for help Volvo penta D3 190hp fault code Mid128 Sid27 Fmi1 turbo has been checked variable vanes moving freely and vacuum actuator moves when vacuum hand pump attached
When engine starts I can watch the actuator pull the variable vane leaver and when in gear and reving I can see it moving back but I only get to 2000 revs and 50 or 60 on the boost gauge
Cleaned air filter and changed both fuel filters and checked props are clean
Anyone any ideas

Could be boost and temperature sensor. They are prone to failing. Easy to change and not too expensive. Look up what the fault codes are

Turbo boost pressure incorrect for rpm and load , basically it’s worn out .
you can try a strip and clean .
over the years I’ve had a couple of turbo companies overhaul them , never been a true success . Buy a new one.

Only a hundred hours on the engine and the turbo is worn out

It’s how the variable vane part works that’s the problem , slow running causes soot to clog up the segments in the exhaust side causing incorrect boost pressure , there is no place for this design in the marine world .

I’ve split the exhaust side of the turbo and there is no soot build up all the vanes move freely and I very rarely run a slow speeds normally 2800rpm which lets me run at 20knts

Did you manage to find a solution here?

I’ve got twin 190s as well and dealing with a frustrating gremlin.

Same experience as you, boost pressure comes up as normal but at 2000-2100 both engines ‘let go’ and faults, with Turbo actuator as the fault.

We’ve replaced both turbos. Both are brand new and still going into limp mode and throwing up the same code on both ECUs.

Already spent $30k and tearing my hair out.
