Volvo Penta d1-30 on/off Alarm

I have a d1-30 with the electronic control.
When i stop the engine i don't turn the power off on the control unless i expect to not use the engine for sometime. By mistake i have even left it on overnight.
Now two friends have said that if they leave the power on (also with the electronic control) with the engine stopped on they get an alarm sounding.
So should i turn off as soon as i stop the engine? Should i have an alarm?

I turn mine off as soon as the engine stops. Don't see any reason to leave it on, and that is what is says in the handbook on the stopping and starting routine. Don't know about the alarm as never left it on.

It depends on which version of engine you have. you don't say !

That's interesting - mine doesn't sound that warning. I normally turn it off after use but have occasionally forgotten or mishandled the button while not watching the screen and ended up leaving it on.

The alarm hardware in mine does work as I occasionally get a brief warning of low oil pressure after starting when it hasn't run for a while.

Maybe they added it to the software at some point and older versions don't have it? (Or possibly but less likely vice-versa)

The alarm also doesn't sound when it's first turned on, and I don't see why it would. Genuine question - is that also stated in the manual or are you assuming based on old-style wiring?

You have hit the nail on the head........ the confusion arises from the fact that the OP did not say which version of the engine he has.

Then according to the manual what I posted originally but then deleted should apply

Starting the Engine

Activate the control panel by depressing the on/off button (1).
The Volvo Penta logo is displayed in the window.
Two audible signals are sounded to indicate the system is ready and that the engine may be started​

(I assume two audible signals means two bleeps)

Stop the Engine

Press the Stop button (3) until the engine stops running.
Press the On/Off button (1) to cut the power to the system.

If the engine is stopped and the ignition still turned on,
an alarm sounds after 10 seconds to prevent the
ignition is left on unintentionally and the battery will become discharged.
Silence the alarm by turning the ignition off,
or reset the alarm with the multifunction button (2) if the ignition is to be turned on.

With the B series all you get it seems is two bleeps at switch on and no alarm following the engine stop

The original series used the old type of control panel, not the electronic panel.

Of course iit is possible that you have a F series engine and the panel previously supplied with the B series

My fear is that if you do not hear these alarms the alarm itself may be defective which would mean that you would get no audible warning of faults that should normally give an audible warning

There does not seem to be any procedure for testing the audible alarm , but I may have missed it.

I have a D1-30B. Yes we get 2 bleeps on switch on, nothing on switch off.
Leaving it on in case engine required quickly (the hour counter does stop) is all very well but
that's how we ended up with a flat battery. I haven't checked what current it takes but it does take some. The illumination was on too.

It seems, however, that not all engines behave as described in the manual. Mine is also a D1-30F and it does the two beeps at startup (so we know the beeper is ok) but not the alarm if left on after shutdown.

(Can't blame you for trusting the manual, obviously).

Hopefully people receive, or have received, the manual applicable to their engine installation.

I am not sure which engine variant I have, so perhaps not much help, but I get both the two bleeps on start and the alarm on shutdown if the switch is left on.
