Is there any alternative to the volvo penta air filter? The sponge has degraded and I can't open the unit to replace it. Any help would be appreciated as I have twin engines.
Living outside the UK adds to the already high price.

K&N filters probably have a viable replacement

Someone will be a long soon with the part type I should think.

Measure the air intake apeture where the filter attaches and that should get you started.

On my last boat we had a2003t and once the air filter had collapsed into a soggy mess the engineer who did the annual service for me said just forget it and leave the housing empty . Volvo prices ridiculous. There’s little air contamination down in the engine space . We ran like that for eight years and never a problem .Others on this excellent forum did suggest cutting one from a type of foam quite readily available but we never got round to it. A search on here probably will bring something up.

+1. The air filter on my 2003 never looks anything but spotless; I do check it from time to time. But where's the contamination to come from? The air intake is in a sheltered, enclosed engine compartment, and the air has to come through a convoluted path to reach it. It's not like a car's engine where road dirt etc. can reach it. Of course, a 2003T will require a higher airflow, but even so, I doubt that the inlet air is ever dirty enough to worry about unless you let off a powder fire extinguisher!
