I usually use Volspec to source proper Volvo spares for my MD22, but I suspect there are cheaper options, particularly for maintenance parts like filters. Where do others get their spares from? I'm not looking for cheap knockoffs, but they don't have to have Volvo on them, providing they are good quality.

I have seen a cheap oil filter that didn't have a pressure relief valve. As said Keyparts for Volvo spares, excellent service and advice if needed.

For MD22 consumables, here are my notes (mine's a MD22L-B):

## Oil Filter

* Volvo 3517857 ~£20
* Crosland 2131
* Fram FFR-PH2861 £4.25
* Baldwin B7152 £4.25
* **NOT** UFI 2324600 (from parts4engines - wrong size thread)

## Fuel Filter (Engine)

* Volvo 21624740
* UFI 2435100
* [Fleetguard FF5442](http://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters-Fuel/SpinOn/M16x1.5/FIN-FF30780) £8.60
* Fram P8043

## Raw water pump

Volvo 3582510 (older model: 3580946)

Is a Jabsco 29540-1001 (https://www.jabscoshop.com/spare-parts/default.aspx?code=29540-1001)

Thanks for the replies. Stuff to chew on there.
I like the prices in parts4engines, but I'm a bit concerned that they may be shipping the wrong part. My boat isn't in the UK and I don't want to cart the wrong parts all the way only to find out they are rubbish. My engine is a MD22P.

The LDV van had the same water pump as ours

If you do a search there is lots of info in earlier threads regarding volvo parts. There is one where I posted my experience with Baldwin filters from InLine filters where I nearly had to call the RNLI out as a result of fitting Baldwin Filters!! So beware.

This was not a fault of In-Line Filters who offer a good service, however the Baldwin Filters (which I checked prior to purchase were 100% genuine and not copies and direct equivalents to the Volvo parts) failed and literally fell off. Our recently sold boat had two TAMD63P engines with 2 filters per engine (plus the large pre-filters) and to my astonishment the first engine filter on each engine fell off within minutes of each other. Even more astonishing the engines didn't stop and just hosed out lots of diesel (circa 120 litres!) into the engine bay. We nearly suffocated with the fumes never mind the fire risk. Scary stuff and fire was a serious possibility. In the end we got a tow back to the marina from a passing friends boat which was fortunate. It also took hours to clean up the mess.

Needless to say Baldwin accepted no responsibility and that was that really. Unfortunately I made the big mistake of letting them have the filters back for inspection before getting an independent inspection done, although two boating pals, one of which is metallurgist and one a very experienced mechanic were of the opinion when they looked at the filters the threads were not cut properly. We will never really know, but suffice to say I would not touch Baldwin filters ever again after that episode and will stick to Volvo. No doubt millions of people have used Baldwin filters and that's fine, but for me no chance I will use them. At the end of the day boats cost thousands to buy and run, so for the sake of say £10 difference between a Volvo filter and copy, I am happy to pay the extra. Once bitten twice shy.
