I am trying to separate MD2B gearbox from prop shaft coupling - it is connected with 4 studs/bolts?, but these are round so cant get a spanner on them

I cant get access from behind to have a better look, but they may have allen key heads? - have tried taking a photo but it is inconclusive

Does anyone have any experience with these

Many thanks

Gavin

As you suspect these are socket head cap screws, but they will be done up very tight. The best tool will be a square drive hex tool which you can turn with the Tommy bar from your socket set - much kinder on your hands than a traditional Allen key, so you can apply a lot more torque.

On my boat I usually loosen the pinch bolt on the collar of the shaft coupling and draw the prop aft. It is reached from above and I have a hatch in the cockpit for access .
