CAN ANY ONE TELL ME IF THERE IS AN ANODE FITTED ANYWHERE ON THIS ENGINE, AND IS THERE ANY OTHER METHOD OF STOPPING THE ENGINE THAT I CAN FIT OTHER THAN CLOSING THE THROTTLE AGAINST A SPRUNG LOADED STOP.
I have an elderly Volvo MD11C and know of no anode fitted - except I have converted to fresh water cooling (?Aquafax?) where there is a small anode in the heat exchanger.
Stopping the fuel flow against the spring-loaded throttle stop, is the recommended method, but in emergency lifting the decompression levers will also stop the engine. There is NO WAY of stopping by switching off the electrics to stop the engine (no solenoid and mechanical fuel pump) and you will just blow the alternator diodes.
I have a 1978 MD11c fitted to my centaur and there is no internal anode fitted to the engine. The only anode I have is an external hull fitted pear shaped Duff Anode, which must be bonded internally to the engine, shaft etc.
