My boat is 15 months old now and when it came out of the water for its yearly service and clean in March the Volvo guys noticed 2 of my 4 hoses on the steering side are ballooning.

There are 2 hoses for the engine tilt and 2 on the steering, the hoses looked like they had had air injected under the rubber covering, Volvo were good on picking this up and they replaced all the hoses on both legs

Last week I took the boat out for a clean, check anodes etc and touch up any anti F that needs doing and on inspection of these hoses they have gone again.

Now Im sure its not my boat or the water it must be the hoses, Im told its not major as the water that has got under the rubber cannot get into the hoses, but it is not good that it has done it again. Volvo again have agreed to change them.

It may be worth anyone with a boat under 2 yrs to check their hoses at some point by squeezing them rather than a quick look, you cant always see it but you can feel it.

We have just had to replace our steering hoses - all four at £95+VAT for the parts alone!

The rubber coating over the s/steel braid had perished and crumbled. Not a very good design, out boat is 4 years old this year.
