Hi

Keen for any suggestions or advice on what could be the issue. Twin VP KAMD300s, the port engine starts up fine with no issues (power and light on the EVC panel). When attempting to start the starboard engine it will not crank and there is no light on the EVC panel for the stbd engine before turning the key to the run position (even after switching in the port engine start battery to assist).

At the first position of the key, the alarm beeps as normal and the volt gauge reads 13V which then drops to zero on trying to start the engine so it sounds like an electrical fault. Tried emergency stop and relay reset on top of the engine with no change.

Power also drops out to the Seafire fixed extinguishing system in the engine room (power status gauge on dashboard) when turning the key which may also be the culprit but then surely the port engine wouldn't start if there was a fault with the Seafire system

Brand new start batteries and house batteries but haven't checked the battery volts/condition directly (will take a voltmeter next time I go down). Any ideas?

Thanks

James

Thanks everyone, will do a full check of the batteries and connections when I get down to the boat next. We've had lots of rain and very high humidity in Oz so probably not helping the electrics. I'll check behind the switches on the console as well. First good boating day in weeks and this happens which is typical! Thanks for your quick responses! James

The circular plug / connector that goes into the black box on top of the engine... make sure that didn't come loose.

Thanks for all the replies, great forum! heading down to the boat this weekend so will check all of the above. Thanks again........

Update - Sorry I meant to do this months ago, would you believe the power loss was due to the morse control for the stbd engine not quite being in the neutral start position (safety default) so after much head scratching and checking the suggestions above I moved the control backwards and forwards a few times and the engine started!

Does anyone know what the torque setting is for the nut securing the pulley onto the alternator as I can't find it in any of my manuals?
