Anyone know where I can download a workshop (not owners) manual for KAD44 engine? Volvo's site seems to be defunct.

Thanks for that. Trying to find out which relay brings in the infamous supercharger. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

On the KAD series there is a engine speed relay that controls the supercharger, on your engine 44 it depends on the model. The 44P-A is connected to the main relay located in the terminal box. However if its a D44P-C then one cable goes to the EDC and the other to a 7.5A flat type fuse - could this be your problem?
Could you give a bit more info on the problem you have?

Thanks, that helps me. I will have a look at the weekend as to exact arrangement.
The 'main' relay in terminal box - is this what Volvo refer to as 'converter' or is that actually the 'EDC'?

I've been trying to find an electrical diagram, but the sites only really give me a component arrangement.

As I say I'll get the meter on it at the weekend and see what I can conclude.

Any clever ways of bringing in the supercharger without actually getting the boat out to sea? In neutral the engine revs are limited to 1500.

Ask Col. I think he's hacked his so he can manually switch it.

Interesting idea, does it send the engine into crazy mode or anything??

It was only whilst I was thinking about this I realised I didn't mention that there are still main relays in the terminal boxes on the B + C series it just that they are protected by 7.5A fuses, in fact 2 of them. The junction box being the black box on top of the engine sort of above the alternator.

Regarding the fitting of a switch, it is not to switch the compressor on but in fact to isolate it, the reason some people do it is because they has to travel slow (ish) for a distance say thru Poole Harbour and at 2000RPM the compressor would be howling away, so this way is quiter for them. Volvo do not approve of this by the way.
If you wish to fit one however you put it in the white cable from the compressor.

Hope this helps.

Old thread! But the compressor on my kad 44 engages when I have the engine in neutral and rev to 1500rpm. The compressor will not disengage. My stbd engine however will engage for the second and then disengage which I believe to be correct operation, all this is happening when engines are up to tempature.
