Mine has stopped working and l remember reading on here l think that there was someone wo could mend them? Can anyone find the link. I have tried the search but can't find it.

If the lcd hour meter has just gone blank then sometimes you can just remove the tacho from the panel and leave it somewhere warm and dry for a few days.
The issue is generally dampness at the back of the panel causing connectivity issues.
Sometimes some cleaning of the back edge of the panel will do the trick.
Failing that, somebody on here did post a link to somebody in Europe selling replacement panels for about £50.

The cheapest option is a small PIC, a bit of programming, some mechanical work making the hole bigger and all good again.
Photos of my replacement here. ... total cost less than £10.

Apologies... it was an Arduino nano clone that I used.

I have spare tacho parts and can assist with the programming if you are local to Portsmouth and up for it.

The arduino nano board from my earlier posting reads the original hours as stored on the main tacho. pcb and displays the same hours that the original display would have shown.

The LED display you refer to is here http://www.boatstuff.se/display-timraknare.html I bought and fitted one. Easy to fit and it displays the correct engine hours from the memory. Some other displays that people fit are independant hours counters that start from zero or you will have to leave it to run on a 12v suply for x hours.

I sent him an email for the same but never got around to ordering one because he wants to be paid through PayPal or something I'd not heard of. I must try harder.

I've just bought the LCD display for a VDO hour meter - the same one that Volvo Penta use but mine was for a Nanni engine.

Bought from here;
http://www.yachtboatparts.com/volvo...screen-for-vp-873992-873688-873998-7745-p.asp
it came to about £76 once tax and P&P was added; and was delivered within 24hours of ordering.

I've just ordered two for that price from a new supplier I've found. I won't reveal details until they are delivered and I can vouchsafe for them being a reliable supplier. I've never seen these VDO displays as cheap as this and the guy says he has plenty.

It will be an easy swap into a Volvo or Yanmar tachometer as it's the original part used by VDO and will preserve the stored hours, of course.

Awaiting update with interest!

The one from http://www.boatstuff.se/display-timraknare.html costs £53 inc vat and delivery so still more than your find. Thanks in advance for your result.

Not sure I would want the original vdo displays as they are well known to lack durability.... unless the replacements are in some way better than the originals.
I currently have two hour counters working out of four.
I have considered fitting a separate hour counter .My last boat had one.

That is a valid point Martyn. I've read somewhere that the display fabrication has been improved and that people are finding that the current version is more reliable.

I've had several PMs asking about the display screen so although my delivery is still on the way I'll explain that the display part number for the Siemens VDO displays used by Volvo and Yanmar tachometers serial no. N02 012 195 (it may fit some other versions as well but you will need to check) is VDO part no. A2C00065115.

With that number you can obviously search for the cheapest supplier online. I have ordered mine for EUR38 each from https://www.autolux.ee/veesõidukite.../tahhomeetri-lcd-displei-85mm-andurile-detail as these seemed to be the best value when I checked.

I too have the dreaded blank display. It used to come back when the weather warmed up but that didn't really happen to us last year!!! I have fitted a mechanical counter for my own knowledge but would certainly replace the LCD at this price if it works out for you. Thanks for being the guinea pig...

I've sourced 2 Curtis 701 hour meters, very small & compact, I've mounted these below the existing Yanmar panels and I'm currently powering them up remotely until the hours reading matches that of the engines. I am also in the process of trying to fix the original Yanmar LED hour meter on the starboard panel which has gone blank, so, if I manage the fix, I'll have the two Curtis meters as a backup.
The only thing I'm not sure of is this: the Curtis meters have three inputs; +ve (connect to pin 2 on the back of the Yanmar gauge), -ve (connect to pin 3 on the back of the Yanmar gauge), with these two connected, the gauge then displays the recorded hours, however, the gauge needs a second +ve which, when connected, starts the hour counter recording - the reason, I assume is so that the hours are recorded only when the engine is running & not just with "ignition on", does anyone know if the wire to pin 4 (tacho signal) is the wire I need to connect here? i.e. Is the tacho signal wire just a 12v +ve which is only energised when the engine is running? If not, any ideas where to connect the third wire from?
Cheers

I reckon I've sorted this myself: the answer is to supply both positives required by the Curtis meters from the same positive on the back of the Yanmar / VDO tacho (pin 2).
The Curtis meters don't start recording until the power has been supplies for 5 seconds.
Job's a good un.

Richard,

Thanks for disclosing your supplier!!

How did you fill out the online order form? When I tried it would only allow Scandinavian addresses to be entered. Country choice UK was not offered.
