Some help please.... I am trying to get 2x D6310 volvos to display engine info on my C120 W plotter.

This has been onging for 2 years .... the storey so far.

Met a Volvo dealer at the boat show. Said what I wanted to do. Gave engine numbers and told it we EVC B

For about £300 odd was sold a Volvo Penta 3889758 converter and matching 3588206 2 to 1 lead.

Then found out I needed a software update for it to work. ****ed off so given the quote was about £300 did not bother.

Last year boat in Palma, Volvo dealer 50 pages away from the boat, got them to update SW for Euro 100.

I assume that I just needed to connect the box anywhere in the EVC system to a spare socket. Apparently not so ... connects to the master engine controllers - hence the 2 to 1 cable - which are burried in the boat.

Volvo dealer finds said boxes and then says that I have EVC A. The leads on the cable do not fit these boxes. They were helpful ( all on unpaid time) and looked at the guides, made a series of phone calls and then proclaimed it could not be done.

Now they could well be right ... but before the blessed bits go on ebay and I am rid of this saga I thought I would ask here!

Any pearls of wisdom please?

Engine Numbers are 2006001027 2006000926

Thanks as ever

We tried to do a similar thing...dicated by hubby:

I used the Noland RS11 analogue to digital converters as my engines were not compatible. So I tapped straight off of the back of the downstairs analogue guages and the Nolan box converts to NMEA 2K, so the C120w can read it. It was a bit of fun, programming the boxes and creating the relevant guages on the Raymarine, but now have downstairs guages on flybridge plotter and it works a dream.

Here's more info on Noland the RS11 http://nolandeng.com/rs11.php
Also a useful site: http://www.panbo.com/archives/2010/05/noland_rs11_analog_to_nmea_2000_engine_monitoring.html\

Good luck - Stu

Yours are D6-310A-A, I have fitted a few but never on a EVC-A but this link lists yours,

+1 for the Noland RS11. Works a treat. Cost about £250 plus about £60 for the Nmea2k starter kit from Force Four.

I can see the revs from each engine plus four other parameters total - I have set up oil pressure and eng temp for now from each engine. These are on my Garmin Gpsmap750, but I would expect the data would work on a Raymarine unit.

Would like to do fuel flow but the flow scan kit would pay for a years supply of fuel, so the payback from optimised fuel economy would be negligible.

I was told it can't be done but if you have the bits why not get the Volvo display, I have a small auto pilot head size and it has all the evc display info on one screen, the bits you have will split the black box and it just plugs in. What I have is engine temp and oil pressure of both engines on the Volvo display, and fuel consumption on the small evc display.

Yes, we fitted the dual floscans - really helps finding the most economical speed (which HWMBO regularly ignores!). I'm sure he'll have paid for them in around 10 years! Actually, we have family in the US, so bought them out there...much cheaper :) But sadly, even FloScans won't output NMEA 2K, so can't connect to Raymarine :(
