So the latest issue:the drive trim on my dph drive isn't working at all, it's totally dead, ie when I press either trim up or down nothing happens, not a click, or whir is heard. The circuit breaker looks fine.

It worked fine 4 weeks ago. This is a volvo dph drive mated to a d4 260.

I'm guessing this is an electrical problem, any suggestions where to start looking?

So upon further investigation, the relays click when the trim buttons are pushed but the motor doesn't even attempt to run.

I'll check for voltage of the wires that run to the pump

Is this with the engine running? On some earlier versions if you want to trim the drives without starting the engines then you had to select the station first (the key button on the panel) which then made the trim buttons work.

When you start the engines it automatically claims station so you wouldn’t necessarily do this every time, as normally you’d be running the engines when you wanted to trim the drive, if that makes sense?!?

Yeah I've just been trying to pull the relays but they seems stuck fast, guess I just need to more violent with them.

I'm guessing it's not the relays though because both up and down do not work. Seems an unlikely coincidence that both relays would fail at the same time?

Andy, this is with the engine running, I'm aware that if the engine isn't running you need to press a button on the control panel to enable the trim to work

Got the relays off, the connections look OK, but cleaned them up anyway.

Guess I now need to apply 12 v straight to one of the motor wires and see what happens. I'm guessing there's a bad earth from the motor, hence why both up and down are not working.

Anyone know how the motor is earthed? I can't see any obvious way.

Had the same issue with my DPE drives after the winter, changed both the relays on the pump and it was solved. Both relays looked fine.
I used these, but not sure if DPH drives are the same

It isn’t earthed that’s why you have 2 wires , the relays reverse the polarity that’s how it goes up and down .

I’d suggest you get professional help if you do t know how the system works .

Vp - thanks I read on another site that tha 2 wire pumps were earthed through the motor body, but I could see any earthing on mine. Thanks for the info, so I guess if the relays reverse the polarity then a single relay failing could cause the issue I am seeing I no up or down motion?

Yes correct

Also if the leg is already fully up or down, it may be working but already at the limit for that direction. You may just have an issue in one direction.

All trim pumps work the same way, the rest position of each relay connects the trim motor wires to earth. When you select up or down the appropiate relay flips over and puts power to one of the motor wires, the other already being earthed by the other relay allows the motor to run. It does the opposite when the other direction is selected, so if none work I’d check first that you have 12v to both relays, then if you do and the relays click check for a bad earth. Green cable is for down (green for the earth) and the blue is up (blue for the sky) thats how I remember them.

So just to close this one off. It wasn't the relays,. It was the 50amp circuit breaker that's mounted on the block next to the oil filters. It hadn't tripped out but had actually failed, ie no current could pass through it.

I checked continuity over the breaker with a multimeter, which showed no continuity. Then just joined the two wires together at which point the trim sprang into life.

So now I need to source a 50amp circuit breaker in mallorca. Any locals got any ideas where I can get one? I'm guessing they should be stocked by any decent chandler.

And to answer my own question (for anyone who finds this thread in the future) it looks like multimarine in either portals nous or the industrial estate behind santa Ponsa sell those circuit breakers. I'll go down tomorrow when they are open and pick one up.
