Hi all

Can anyone advise the size of the bolt/filler cap hex head for the oil reservoir on a Volvo Penta DPH-A leg?

I’m changing the leg oil this weekend but a) can’t remember the size of the nut b) am 2 hours away from my boat right now.

Last time I did the fill I used a large shifting spanner, but I’d prefer to use a socket and may we’ll need to buy one to fit (as it’s larger than my standard socket set ones).

You will need 30 mm socket it’s the same size as the prop nut which you will need to take off to drain the oil .

...and can anyone tell me if the prop nut is normal or reverse direction? It’s not budging right now!!

There are actually two designs of prop nuts: up to DPH-C has a nut that goes over the shaft thread.
DPH-D onwards have a lockbolt that goes into the shaft.

This might be stating the obvious, but make sure that you aren't trying to turn the cone with the smaller nut or lock bolt still in place.

Good point David , but as he said DPHA I didn’t want to confuse the post with the later C version prop cone and bolt .
