volvo d9 problem

After a super few days down in the sunny october med, dolphins flat calm, etc all mobo dreams come true, started engines this morning and port engine had a horrible mechanical buzzing rattle coming from the gearbox end of the engine. Not from the gearbox. Bearing in mind BartWs recent misfortune stopped engine PDQ and limped back 30miles on starboard. Not much to go on and will contact local engine tomorrow but any suggestions? No smoke so probably not injectors

I know your on V drives but are you on a ZF or Twin disc box? The zf straight shaft drive had problems with the drive plates on the 575hp engines also the zf 280 was over its limit yet they still fitted it, have a look and tell me the gearbox model.

Gearboxes are twin disc mg5075iu if that helps at all
