So is it right the oil cooler just sits floating held by by two hoses held with jubilee clips . ok just a change update the hose shot off at high revs.

the hose from or to the pump , goes on one end of cooler, ther seems that a little bracket off the engine clips into the jubilee clip somehow. No thats the fuel cooler if you mean the one behind the fuel filter, if low down on the water inlet hose thats the servo oil cooler, the oil cooler is on the aft end of the heat exchanger under the oil filter housing.
WHEN you say oil cooler blocked do you mean fuel or oil , and does it mean i might need to do a rydlem clean ????That's the fuel cooler. Getting the hose, bracket & clip on correctly is a pain.
If the hose is at all frayed, replace it!
There is full pressure from the water pump on there, if the oil, intercooler etc are slightly blocked, it can blow that hose.
We had one go that soaked the battery charger., expensive
Oil cooler housing available I bought one last week .It happened on a pair of them where the tubes on the heat exchanger were partially blocked.
There are 3 elements to the cooler stack, heat exchanger, oil cooler & intercooler, plus the fuel cooler in front & the gearbox cooler before the injection elbow.
If there is any sign of white fur on the end caps, or any sign of drips around the starter motor, it's time to strip & clean the tubes & more importantly, change the o rings.
They should be pressure tested before refitting, not all volvo dealers bother with that
Part of the problem is the outer housings are aluminium, anything leaks & they rot.
The oil cooler housing is obsolete, I had to get these welded & machined.
If it does fail, there is a chance if salt water entering the oil system & that is terminal!
The hose going into the fuel cooler takes a 60 mm hose clip that’s outside diameter and the pump end takes a 55mm hose clip so I’d guess the inside diameter is approximately 50 mm .So i am going and try the flush tomorrow
