So carrying on from my last thread on water under my engine, I have ordered the two o rings that appear to need to be changed. In the diagram below they are listed as parts 5 and 9. I realise that I will have sea water in the cooler, but as it is above the water line and is feed from the raw water cooler I can see a suction having formed so once I remove the pipe at the front then there should be no extra water appear.

Has anyone done this themselves and are there any pitfalls?

Many thanks

Hi, I have two D6 330s in my V39 (2013), a friend is a Volvo trained tech, he told me to look for the telltail leaks above the starter motors and low and behold there they were. I was transporting the boat to the SoF so wanted the work done prior to shipping, I had all the o rings on the coolers (including the fuel one) replaced some requirement new end caps.

There is a significant amount of dismantling required to gain access to the coolers, there is also the possibility of the problem reoccurring if they coolers are reassembled without the necessary sealant/lubricant. The bill was c£4,000, this would have been significantly more if I had the work done in the SoF.

Surely this should have been a VP recall? The problem seems to be there on most D6's

4 grand !!! To do what ?

£4000! Ouch.

I have to remove four bolts and have good access. I only have any evidence of leaks on one engine so won’t be messing with the other.

The four bolts are shown as part no 4 in the diagram above.

I'd have done it for £400 including O rings, its not a big job.

Is there much more in it apart from removing the hoses on the front of the cover, then the cover, clean all faces, remove the o rings and replace. Finally reassemble.

As part I would remove all other evidence of corrosion that has formed on the starter motor.
