I am having an issue with my starboard alarm panel display. When I start the engine the 3 lights on the display stay on. On the port engine the lights go out. Then a few seconds later the alarm sounds and the battery light is flashing.
If I turn the key back to 0 (engine still running, but power gone) and turn back back to 1 the alarm is gone. It only happens on start up.

The battery instrument gauge is showing a good charge.

Any advise please.

Does the gauge show the voltage actually rise after start up ?

If so I would suspect a diode inside the VP light block has blown. These can be rebuilt if you are handy with a soldering iron. I have a diagram somewhere and have rebuilt several.

Yes there seems to be a rise in the voltage.

When you say VP light block , do yo mean the alarm panel display or is it somewhere else ? A diagram would be great if you could .

Hi I have same problem, did you manage to find diagram of block?

Thanks.

Apply some revs on the engines , if it's a twin installation with shared start battery the meter is reading the start battery voltage but the alternator hasn't kicked in because it's reading the battery it's attached to which could be through a diode splitter , what model of boat is it ?

Hi volvopaul

No that is not the problem. Occasionally that did happen, now the alarm comes on even when running at 1800 rpm. It stays on even when motoring. All batteries drop tested - Very Good - Alternator bench tested - Very Good - all wiring check - good.

Thanks for reply.

Hi superheat6k

Got that very many thanks for the valuable info - off to RS to get components while the soldering iron warms up!!

Best wishes.
