My Merry Fisher 655 has a D3 110 engine which is fitted with a Volvo Air Filter Part Number 21171277.

Anyone know of an alternative make filter which will fit please ?

If you don't get a more sensible and informative reply, I took my oil filter into a proper motor factors and he immediately identified it for me and which equivalent was best. Don't try Halfords though you have to tell the yoof there what make, model, year and colour of car it came off so no chance of them identifying it by eye. You want a proper factors. Every town's got one hiding away on some industrial estate

+1.

Example nationwide factors are Partco, Unipart, etc But just look up in Yell.com "Motor Factors" in the nearest town to you and you'll find some real gems.

When I wanted a compressor belt for my KAD32 I had to tell the Halfords guy that I owned a Honda Jazz. I could barely look him in the eye :D

If it's the square one don't try anything else as Volvo made a cock up with the early round ones and moved to the flat panel one. If it's not right you can have edc faults come up.

Volvo Paul,

The filter is indeed the square type.

Went to my local auto factors as suggested. Asked the chap there if he stocked an equivalent for the Volvo filter. He pointed out that mine was not Volvo but was in fact made by K and N, part number 33-2060 and guaranteed for life. Apparently you can clean and re-oil the filter after every 500 hours of use.

The filter was supplied by a well known Volvo Penta parts supplier in 2011 as being the genuine article for which I was charged well over £50. Interesting when you consider that the recommended retail price by K and N is £26.96 plus VAT.

The only reason I was going to change the filter was because last Wednesday I took the boat to the Brendons Reef off Looe/Fowey for a days fishing. At one stage I switched off the engine for approx. 30 minutes. When I restarted it all was well for about 10-15 seconds and then the engine stalled. I re-started it again with no problems and it seems to be running fine, but stalling was a bit disconcerting when you are 14 miles out from Plymouth.

The engine a D3 110 has only done 289 hours .

Any ideas why it stalled ?
