Hi
2002 Sealine F33 fitted with AD41p on duoprop legs, got a problem when engaging forward gear on the starboard engine, reverse is fine, push lever forward and it doesnt go into gear, wait 5 or 6 seconds and in she goes, no clunks and is fine until you take it out of gear when the same happens, tried on the flybridge and its the same, legs are serviced every year.
Anybody have any ideas whats wrong please.
Thanks Mike

I'd start by checking that you are getting full travel on the shift arm on the outdrive when you operate the shift lever. If no, then adjust cable.

Else, could be worn cone clutch, which could be x-pensive.

Sounds like the cone is worn or the assembly needs shimming up to the correct setting, maybe a worn bearing causing movement between the cone and gear hence the longer travel to engage the cone.

Not sure if I explained it correctly, engine at idle, push lever forward as normal to engage gear at idle, leave the control alone, not increasing revs, count to six and then in to gear she goes, smooth as silk.
Thanks for the replies.

Hi
Seem to understand the problem, however still another question, do we assume you have cable controls eg push/pull type (morse) not electrical?
Reverse is normal?
Is the leg 290 DP-E?

OK, still some more questions.
Has it been like this since the boat has been in the water?
If no,did it happen all of a sudden or over a space of time?
You mention it's the same from the fly bridge and the cabin - yes?
Can you see the mechanism where the cables from the flybridge and cabin join together? Check cable ends are lock nutted in position and that the rest of the levers are OK,eg nothing loose etc, if needbe look at the other set for the other engine.
The final one is as already mentioned, the outdrive cover needs to be removed, check shift lever is horizontal (neutral), remove split pin and washer, undo locknut and turn shift cable end 180 degrees. Push the gear shift lever forward, note this postion, pull lever fully back, note position. Rotate the shift cable swivel to the mid position of the 2 places noted above, do not move the cable during this part, then install washer and new split pin, tighten the locknut.
However what I would do before removing the split pin if possible would be once the outdrive cover is removed is to observe the gear shift in operation before disturbing anything, would this be possible? You would then see if you have the correct amount of movement to the shift lever.
I am hoping for you it is just a simple case of the cable being out of adjustment as above because the other reasons become expensive!
Hope this is of some help and please let us know how you get on.

Steve

Hi Steve
It happened all of a sudden
It is the same on the flybridge
Shift cable at the junction box moves as soon as the morse is pushed forward so looks like its a lift out to remove the cover on the leg, just going to leave it till Feb when its due for a lift out for the leg service and wash.
Thanks very much for your help
