Hi

Today my 3 month old impeller disintegrated while I was motoring, Volvo AD31P.

I found bits of it in the strainer basket but maybe not all of it. I looked in the heat exchanger and couldn’t find any bits in there. I back flushed the hose that attaches to the oil cooler and no bits were in there.

Where else should I check?

I fitted a new impeller and it seems to be keeping a good temperature but I don’t want to be caught out my a blockage in the future.

Thanks

Oh dear, assume your strainer is after the pump? then you are lucky that the strainer is the only place to look. Hope you can find out why it disintegrated and/or why it ran dry.

First stop after raw water pump on 41 is the oil cooler. 31 may be the same. ?
You might be able to remove hose to oil cooler and flush out loose debris inside the front chamber of oil cooler unit with a mains water hose.
The front plate is also removable if flushing fails.

no, on the OP's engine, AD31, the strainer basket is after the pump
