Volvo 290 DP Power Trim

Hi,
I have twin volvo 290 DP outdrives aged about 1989. There is a very slight oil weep from one of the hydraulic power trim rams that are located inside the hull. The pipes seem fine and the leak is actually coming from the pump. The local volvo penta dealer says they no longer make that pump and suggest a new pump conversion kit at about £1500. This seems ridiculous for such a slight leak. They say that they can only fit genuine volvo penta parts and since there is no such part anymore they cannot supply an alternative. In fairness they do say that they are aware of alternatives (non volvo) but cannot say where from. Indeed they say that on the previous model which was electric the pump motor was from a "hoover" ?
Does anyone know where I can locate some oil seals for my hydraulic pump.

Thanks

Very few hydraulic manufacturers actually make there own seals, pumps, rams etc. They may make mods but you usually find that they buy in seals etc. made to industry standard sizes. Get the offending article stripped down then take a trip to your local agricultural machenery agent, find the storeman, offer incentive and get him to match the seal for you. If the ram itself has been scored or damaged the local machine shop can usually knock one up out of stainless for a fraction of the Volvo cost or machine the old ram to suit a new seal. If there is no Volvo part available the unit is obviously not going to be covered by any warranty so why spend the cash. Have some faith in the good old British engineer there's still a few of them out there.
