my volvo 2010 is supposed to rev to 3600, but now only revs to 2000. and this is while out of gear.

ive changed the water separator and fuel filter.

ive taken of the fuel lift pump because i remember that when manually activateing it, it won't pump the fuel out strong enough.

ive blown and sucked thru the lift pump, and it seems to be ok, i'll probably change it, but i really want to get to the bottom of the problem..

the fuel coming out of the tank seems to flow ok.

any ideas welcome.

yeh there is an air filter, which ive blown through, but it dos'nt look the sort that would get blocked, ive not seen another airfilter on it.

been running fine for years now, i only noticed it, when i was looking for the source of a squeeking sound..

check the fuel stack pipe in the tank, some have small filters on the end, stupid question as well, is the lever on the pump going to full fuel position? cable probs can stop it opening wide
stu

funny you should say that, the lift pump lever doesnt move all the way, only found out when i took the lift pump of, and found theres so much more travel on the lever than when its on the engine.

I'd think lift pump unlikely first place to look for your problem, and the travel on the lever probably has no relation to required stroke on engine.

Is the 2,000 delivered continuously, or is there any surge when held at that revs? If surge, then it's a fuel starvation issue, and you need to go through the fuel system from source to injector to find where fuel isn't bein delivered as required.

If there is no surge, the fact you only get 2,000 rpm unloaded points firstly to a governor issue - is the throttle cable position actually calling for max fuel or not? If yes, is governor reaching it's stop?

the revs are continous, no problem there, i've manually pushed the throttle on the engine, rather than useign the throttle lever.

the throttle on the engine touches the govener, the guy at volspec said to lossen this, but the manual says its set at the workshop and shouldnt need touching.

the lift pump doesnt push out enough fuel, which is why ive taken it off for a look see. it used to gush out before.

the other thing is that i let the fuel in the tank run low, so any sludge could have got in somewhere.
