Volvo 2003 questions. Anode location and electrical continuity between saildrive

Dear All,
Can someone relieve my curiosity?
Focused1's photo in #38 shows a thermostat with what appears to be a vertically orientated fitting in the bottom of it. From that a pipe goes off down and to port. The items are obscured somewhat by what, on my boat, would be the anti-syphon pipes but the thermostat looks so different to those on my engines. Is this a different thermostat housing that pre/post dates mine and what does that fitting and pipe/cable go?

Also I understood the oil pressure sensor to be inside the rubber boot atop the oil filter (see photo)
[Photo: Focused1 #38 on left - my spare on right, hence no anti-syphon]

Sorry if I am missing something obvious
Cheers
Bob

Hello bob.
You cant actually see the thermostat housing in my picture. The round unit is the oil pressure sender and is mounted on top of a long solid pipe on top of the oil filter fitting.
The pipes in my picture are as follows. The long pipe coming from bottom right of my photo to top left is the pipe from the water pump and goes off into the heads and an anti-syphon loop under the sink. The solid pipe in your picture is orientated upside down on mine for the return pipe from the anti-syphon loop in the heads. The pipe on the extreme left is for the colarifier that is mounted in te saloon.
It seems my engine is a bit odd compared to most because i havent found pictures of one set up similar.

The temperature sensor immediately above the water inlet connection in the centre of the RH picture is occupying the position I though might be used for an anode. If that is an optional gauge sensor then that position will be available if there is no gauge but if it is the high temperature alarm sensor then its not available for an anode

So you're running a calorifier on a raw-water cooled engine, how do you find that in practice?

Thanks, that clarifies why I was confused about the thermostat housing, but what is that green pipe that goes partly behind the fuel filter? [Sorry to a pain].

Yes, that is all as I expected

Life would be a bit boring if everything was the same!
Cheers

I note that several people refer to the anode plug as being made of steel. I don't think this is usual, as mine is brass, and I have had two - the original which was in place when I bought Capricious, which was sadly mangled, and an official Volvo spare part that I bough to replace the original. It is below and behind the alternator, on the starboard side of the engine.

PVB the colarifier seems to work fine with my engine. I only spent one night at anchor last year and the water was plenty hot enough for a nice wash after a rough passage and probably 2 hours motoring at the end. Was nice actually after sailing a bare bones sadler 26 for so many years before.
Bob i might make myself look silly here because i cant remember for sure but i think that pipe is actually a painted cable. I im at the boat almost every evening doing bits and pieces so i will check for sure tonight and report back
